George Herbert Walker Bush resents being compared to Herbert Hoover, the president of the Great Depression. But he keeps on making the comparison unavoidable. Just like Hoover in 1930, the president's first response was: "What recession?" Then to say it would correct itself; then that, yes, there had been one but it was over; then that he was concerned; then that the big picture was OK (while referring to 241,000 lost jobs as "little details").
