To many, it seemed almost as though divine intervention occurred when Amber Tamblyn was cast as Joan in CBS's hour-long drama "Joan of Arcadia.'' It certainly would be fitting in a show about a teenage girl's interactions with God, who appears in various human forms in everyday situations.

"When she came in and read, she just nailed the part. She was Joan. I knew somebody was going to come in and do that, and she came in early,'' said Barbara Hall, the show's creator and executive producer, who wanted to modernize the Joan ...
