Seoul metro goes from strength to strength: the "can do" attitude of the Koreans has created a metro in the capital, Seoul, of nearly 300km in 30 years with more to come in the next decade.(Korea)

MASSIVE investment in metro lines is, according to official figures, achieving the desired effect of encouraging a modal switch from road to rail in the Korean capital, Seoul. The trend is set to continue so that by 2011, the modal share of metro will have more than doubled to 48.5% compared with 1991, while bus and taxi usage will have halved. Car usage rose from 14.1% in 1991 to 19.1% in 2000, but is forecast to fall back to 17% by 2011.
