On January 17, 2004 the music world lost a great voice, musician and friend. Tom Rowe, 53, died of heart-failure while undergoing chemo-therapy for throat cancer. Only diagnosed in November, Tom was still singing with my brother Chuck and I in Schooner Fare right through our annual December sold-out performances at The Barns at Wolf Trap in Washington, D.C.

Born and raised in rural Maine, Tom possessed an intimate knowledge of the outdoors and the people who worked there for a living. The oldest of four, he played clarinet in his dad's combo until discovering the guitar and ...
