Garrett Biedermann did not turn colors when called upon to spell "luteovirescent," which means greenish-yellow.
He organized his thoughts well for "synergize," which means to cooperate or coordinate.
But he hit a clinker with "tinnitus," which means a ringing in the ears.
Biedermann, 14, an eighth-grader from the Baldwinsville school district, advanced to the fourth round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington Wednesday before missing on tinnitus.
