Have you ever heard of the Belostomatidae family? Clue: They love to swim. Belostomatidae is a bit tricky to spell and a lot trickier to pronounce! Belostomatidae (Bel-low-stow-MATT-ti-dee) is the scientific classification (family) that the giant water bug is a member of.

The word "bug" is used for all insects, but scientists call only one group of insects "true" bugs. True bugs have sharp, jointed beaks that they use to slurp up their food.
