BHP Billiton has publicly rejected an attempt by an Israeli-led consortium of investors to buy its Ekati diamond mine in Canada's Northwest Territories, saying that the business was not for sale.
Earlier, the DGI Group, which is headed by Dan Gertler, a Ramat Gan-based diamantaire, said it had managed to raise $2 billion to buy diamond assets around the world, and it was making Ekati its prime target.
