In the first briefing ever detailing the Navy's stealth requirements for its new attack aircraft, a senior service offical said yesterday that stealth must be part of the basic design of the AX so the aircraft can achieve optimum results.

Rear Adm. Jeremy Taylor, director of aviation plans and requirements for the Chief of Naval Operations, said, "We have go to have stealth (because) the requirement for a stealthy, long-range, all-weather aircraft still stands."
