Sir - May 1 must have been one of the saddest days in the history of Wales - when 10 new countries joined the European Union. Five of these countries, namely Malta, Cyprus, Slovenia, Latvia and Estonia, have a population less than that of Wales (in fact, the combined populations of the first three countries is only three million!).
