Researchers have been working with various organic sources to build inexpensive displays and other devices using technologies similar to that used in ink-jet printers. The ultimate goal to many is the "electronic newspaper," a display made of thin-film transistors (TFTs) built on a flexible substrate, produced in a roll-to-roll process not unlike the way potato chip bags are made.
