The rivalry between David Thursfield and Nick Scheele at Ford Motor Co. is over. The winner is Jim Padilla.

Thursfield, 58, who headed Ford's international operations and purchasing, is retiring.

He clashed in the last few years with Scheele, 60, whose responsibilities are being scaled back. Scheele will remain president, but the Chief Operating Officer position was handed to Padilla, 57.
