We loved them. Now they're gone.
That's the lament of Lisa Jones, day-care teacher at Madison Area Technical College Child and Family Center, whose classroom's three giant, African land snails -- Speedy, Spot and Tiny -- were confiscated as a threat to agriculture by state officials on April 28.
"They were the best pets ever. They were cool to look at, unique. If kids had allergies, it wasn't an issue," mourned Jones, who teaches 2- and 3-year-olds.
