When Jackie Robinson swung that bat 57 years ago for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field in New York, he did more than step on the field and break the Major League color barrier--he changed America.

On that fateful day, April 15, 1947, Robinson's courageous act marked the beginning of a legacy when he opened doors for others by becoming the first African-American player in Major League Baseball.
