May 4--BOONE, N.C. -- Watauga Medical Center and Avery Health Care Systems, which operates Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital in Linville, plan to join together to improve medical care and save money in a partnership outlined yesterday by officials from both hospital systems.
The move would not be a merger, officials stressed, because each hospital would retain its name, assets and liabilities.
