Colorado Power Plants Could Produce More Airborne Mercury under Bush Plan.

May 3--Colorado is one of five states whose power plants could produce more airborne mercury in 2018 under a Bush administration proposal meant to limit mercury nationwide, a local environmental watchdog said last week.

An Environmental Protection Agency officer said that's true, but then emissions would drop fast, yielding a big decrease by 2020.

And a University of Denver chemist said the few dozen pounds of mercury in question hardly matter because mercury isn't as dangerous as many think.
