HANSON
"Underneath" (3CG)
three stars (out of four)
The Hanson boys are all grown up, and it shows on the splendid new "Underneath," released on their own indie label. The brothers are in great voice, especially lead singer Taylor, as they wend their way through an hour of catchy roots and power-pop tunes.
Highlights include the soaring harmonies of the grab-you-by-the-ears opener "Strong Enough to Break," the summer-drive breeziness of "Penny and Me" and the slyly funny romantic lament "Misery," sung by eldest brother and guitarist Ike.
