NEW YORK -- A last-minute snafu scuttled what would have been the first national college football game on pay-per-view, but PPV executives say it's only a matter of time before major college events are seen on PPV.

The venture between ABC and Showtime Event Television would have put the Nov. 16 Notre Dame-Penn State game on PPV to about 50 percent of the addressable universe, according to SET.

An ABC spokesperson would not comment on why the project was abandoned, saying that the network never really announced its plans to offer the event.
