The earth is hard and cracked beneath the bare feet of M. Munusamy as he looks over the stubble in his rice paddy in southern India. It's nearly 100 degrees in late March, and this bony, debt-ridden farmer in a loincloth has just harvested what little he could in yet another drought.

Munusamy has lost a quarter of his yield. He's lost all of his profit. And like many Indian farmers, he might lose his farm. At 70, he's at the end of the road.
