BP realigns petrochemicals; will sell Alpha-Olefins.(Europe/Mideast)

BP has announced a major realignment of its $16.1-billion/year petrochemicals business into operations earmarked for growth, restructuring, or divestment. The company's acetyls; paraxylene and other aromatics, and purified terephthalic acid (PTA) businesses have been earmarked for growth, while olefins and derivatives, including polyolefins, polystyrene, and acrylonitrile will be restructured. The company's linear alpha-olefin and polyalpha-olefin (LAO/PAO) operations, and its fabrics and fibers division will be sold.
