Asset Quality Reflected In New S&P Qualified Ratings

NEW YORK - Standard & Poor's has released the second edition of its Insurer Solvency Review, with "qualified" ratings recalculated to reflect greater market concern over asset quality, according to Roy Taub, executive managing director of S&P's insurance rating service.

"Comparing what we said in the spring, with what we are saying now about qualified solvency rating models," Mr. Taub said, "the biggest change is the increasing importance of asset quality in the overall formula."
