PARIS -- Emanuel Ungaro is after much more than a flash-in-the-pan hit with his new women's scent, Apparition, due out in September worldwide.

"I think a fragrance must have a future," he told WWD in an exclusive interview Thursday at his Avenue Montaigne atelier here, surrounded by sketches and swatches from his most recent couture collection.

"For me, a woman unleashes the power to dream -- that's what I tried to do with this fragrance," he said.
