MY camel Mahmoud stamps his foot in the sand with the petulance of a supermodel who has just been asked to pose for Asda.

As I lurch unsteadily on his back, it's clear Mahmoud can't believe he's been reduced to working with such an amateur.

I am camel-trekking in the Sahara desert in Tunisia and Mahmoud is my first experience of the animals.

It doesn't take long to learn that while camels have the faces of wizened old men, they have prima donna attitudes.

Mahmoud regally stalks his way across the desert on long spindly legs, placing each splayed foot in the sand ...
