Optical character recognition technology is being utilized as a productivity enhancing tool by both classroom teachers and educational administrators. OCR requires a scanning device (either flatbed, sheet-fed or hand-held), character recognition software and a word processing system running on a microcomputer. Using these tools, text can be transformed from a document to a computer file, extending the flexibility of educators and saving many hours of typing.
