NEW YORK -- Private equity investment firm Parthenon Capital is keen to buy a 60% controlling stake in the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), the world's largest energy futures exchange.
Details of the proposal are sketchy, but the Nymex said in a statement that Parthenon had suggested a transaction "that would include an initial cash payment and other elements" and that Parthenon had valued one Nymex seat at $2 million - - a 29% premium over the last time a seat changed hands -- for $1.55 million -- in February.
