As surely as daffodils herald spring, political lawn signs signal the approach of an election. The theft or vandalism of lawn signs is a routine part of the cycle, though seldom on such a scale as occurred when someone stole 200 signs supporting Eugene City Council candidate Betty Taylor. The crime underlines the importance of this prosaic, personal and low-tech form of campaigning.
