WHILE many Japanese companies have fallen victim to the so-called Lost Decade, Hoya has progressively implemented serious structural reforms since the early 1990s to bolster its corporate competitiveness. For the business year ending March 2002, the company clocked up consolidated sales worth 235,265 million yen ($1.9 billion) and an ordinary income of 45,774 million yen, achieving an 11.5% return on equity.
