Despite recent problems with Cisco's wireless security mechanisms, the company is hanging on to its control of standards in this area, proposing a new authentication protocol to the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) body. This is designed to replace the recently compromised LEAP protocol with a free, openly available technology called EAP-Fast, that does not use certificates.
