THE Science and Technology Foundation of Japan (JSTF) named Dr. Benoit B. Mandelbrot, Dr. James A. Yorke and Dr. Ogawa Seiji as laureates of the 2003 (19th) Japan Prize.

The JSTF awards the Japan Prize annually to people from all parts of the world whose original and outstanding achievements in science and technology are recognized as having advanced the cause of peace and prosperity for mankind. Laureates receive certificates of merit and commemorative medals, and there is also a cash award of 50 million yen (411,000 dollars) for each of the two prize categories ...
