Buddhism, one of the world's major religions, originated in northeastern India in approximately 552 B.C. as an outgrowth of Hinduism. Buddha (the enlightened one) believed that all people are reborn again and again until they reach nirvana, a feeling of complete peace and happiness. Those who reach nirvana are not born again and all suffering is ended. The four major teaching of Buddhism are:
