Abstract
Teachers in the United States are overwhelmingly White, middle class women with little experience with diversity, but the student population is approximately 40% nonwhite; therefore, most minority students are taught by White teachers. If White educators are not sensitive to their own privileged status in U.S. culture, they can unconsciously make minority students feel marginalized and unwelcome in the classroom environment.
