THIS SWEEPING LOOK at the subject of hope for a better future in America is in itself a reason to believe that hope remains a viable force in our society. Most of the specific events and movements described are well known and appropriate examples of the ongoing changes that have brought us nearer to the better future that Fraser wants. On the other hand, he appears to have an axe to grind. Almost nowhere in this study does the government or business or those in power appear to have much virtue or reason for our support. ...
