Honda Motor Co. has named a new head of its crucial U.S. sales arm.

Koichi Kondo will replace Koichi Amemiya as CEO of American Honda Motor Co. Inc. on April 1. Amemiya has held the post since 1989.

Kondo, 57, is the company's COO.

Amemiya, 63, will remain as president of Honda North America Inc., the coordinating arm for all of Honda's North American operations.

Amemiya, who joined American Honda in 1984, will continue to work at the company's headquarters in Torrance, Calif., spokesman Jeffrey Smith says.
