From around the fourth grade, children become interested in drawing realistically. Developmentally, this is sometimes called the "pseudo-realism" or "intellectual realism" stage. They are ready to draw what they observe, but they usually lack appropriate skills. They tend to add many details to their drawings, but without other aspects, details do not make a picture realistic. During these upper-elementary school years, teaching to observe and to draw generates great interest and brings about satisfactory results.
