Court broadens airline liability.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-2 Tuesday that the Warsaw Convention makes an airline company liable when an asthmatic passenger allegedly dies from second-hand smoke on an international flight.

The decision will put airlines on notice that the behavior of airline personnel, especially in response to a medical emergency, could make them increasingly vulnerable to legal peril.

The case involves Olympic Airways, largely owned by the Greek government, and a 1998 flight from Athens to New York.
