Standalone online sources: the challenge of the niche database.

The number of online databases continues to grow and is now, by conservative reckoning, well over 4,000. Yet most online searchers regularly use only several dozen, and are aware of perhaps some hundreds more. What about the rest? Are there, among those unknown thousands of databases, useful files that online specialists should know about? The answer is a definite and tantalizing "probably."
