Equity capital markets bankers were relieved that the recent flotation of Iliad, the French internet and telecoms company, was such a success. Despite its small size, the deal was watched closely because if it had flopped some potential issuers would have had second thoughts.Before the deal one French banker said: "It is important the deal goes well as it sets the tone for the European initial public offering (IPO) market."
One head of equity syndicate said: "If the deal had gone wrong, there might have been a crisis of confidence.
