A fifth of foreign direct investment in Britain now comes from Japan. its growth

may soon start to slow

UT of the gloom of the recession a few points of light have shone this year: 1,000 new workers recruited for car production in the north-east, for example, and 1,400 new jobs in a L147m [Brit. pounds] ($255m) investment in television production in south Wales. Japanese companies like Nissan and Sony, the two names behind these activities, have been busily expanding in defiance of the recession-as too have many other, smaller Japanese firms.
