THE MAN behind the controversial Atkins diet may not have known the true secrets of its success, it emerged today.
Dr Robert Atkins said his diet, which he invented in 1992, worked because of the way the body burns fat and protein.
However, scientists say new evidence indicates this is not so. They say the secret is the protein, which acts as an appetite suppressant.
