Not long ago, reports of a gypsy moth infestation in south Eugene would have caused two types of consternation, both serious. Oregon's agricultural and timber industries would have been alarmed by the economic threat posed by the spread of the insect. And people in the area affected by the infestation would have been worried about the effects of chemical sprays used to combat the gypsy moth.
