A public inquiry into the sinking of the Gaul trawler with six North-East men aboard has been told there is no evidence it was spying for the Ministry of Defence.
The Attorney General Lord Goldsmith told the inquiry, which opened in Hull yesterday, there was no indication that the trawler which sank in 1974 with the loss of 36 men, was on a secret mission.
