The birds showed up on the front lawn, just like they do every morning a little before dawn at the east Eugene home of Ursula and Dan Chamness.

Only this time, they weren't the gaggle of handsome Canada geese that make a daily appearance, but a stand of stark raving pink flamingos, 22 of them and hard to miss against the snowy winter landscape.

In their pinkishness, they caught Ursula Chamness by surprise. She laughed out loud when she saw them.

"I thought, `Oh, my gosh, I know who's responsible.' ...
