Only a few of the relatively small number of minerals that contain gold as a major component, other than native gold itself, occur in relative local abundance or as strikingly spectacular specimens. Most collectors are, however, somewhat familiar with the common tellurides sylvanite and calaverite and perhaps a few others in this general family.
