According to the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (API) End-Use Market Survey, the amount of PU used in the automotive industry has increased by 8.5% in three years from 1998 to 2000 in North America alone and by 56% worldwide over five years. With more OEMs eyeing weight reduction, sound absorption and durability, PU is increasingly being used in a variety of components including seat cushion foams, interior panels and skins, car bumpers, truck beds and support rings for runflat tyres.
