1. INTRODUCTION
An absorber is an astronomical object that is detected through the light it absorbs from a quasi-stellar object (QSO). Absorbers are believed to be gas clouds near distant galaxies and are observed on a set of radial line segments, called lines of sight, between Earth and QSO's. Galaxies have long been known to form large clusters, and astronomers are interested in the degree and extent of clustering, especially on large scales.
