A RECORD number of people committed serious crimes while released on bail last year including murder and rape.
Disturbing figures uncovered by the Sunday Mail show 3738 bail offences were investigated by police last year a 55 per cent increase on last year's figure of 2409.
The alarming rise comes after European human rights legislation led to an increase in the number of alleged serious crimes offenders being freed on bail.
Seven out of 10 accused are now released until trial.
