A NEW alternative to attract producers to the Hereford breed has been unveiled.

And the scheme also aims to improve carcase quality in both pedigree and commercial Herefords.

The Northern Ireland Certified Hereford Beef Scheme has now been running for three years and WD Meats, Coleraine, has processed 5,000 cattle for marketing under the Dovecote Park Hereford beef label. Dovecote is the sole beef supplier to the Waitrose supermarket chain.
