AT THE URGING of Senator Kennedy, the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, on a nearly party-line 9 to 8 vote, has rejected the nomination of Professor Carol Iannone to the National Council of the Endowment for the Humanities. It was heavily lobbied by the academic Left to block Miss Iannone on the grounds that she is insufficiently distinguished and had published mainly in non-academic magazines like Commentary (and, we might add, NR).
