Acute health effects from community exposure to N-propyl mercaptan from an Ethoprop (Mocap)-treated potato field in Siskiyou County, California.

In June 1989, Ethoprop (brand name, Mocap), a pesticide, was sprayed on 145 acres of potatoes growing near the town of Dorris, California. After the spraying, the residents of the town began to develop shortness of breath and dizziness. A report is presented of the health effects of the spraying, which was soon followed by reports of shortness of breath and dizziness by several residents. The cases were reported to the Butte Valley Rural Health Clinic, and an epidemiological investigation of the situation was initiated.
