FRANKFORT -- Ernie Fletcher officially became Kentucky's 56th governor just after midnight today in a private, solemn ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.

Fletcher, the first Republican elected governor in 36 years, said his life was changing, and he wants to change the lives of all Kentuckians for the better.

"If we do that, then we've done well," Fletcher said in the end of a brief speech to about 180 people.
