Although Mark Vadon deals with diamonds every day, Blue Nile's chief executive still was a bit wide-eyed Monday morning looking over the more than $4 million worth of rare gems at the company's headquarters.

The jewels, known as fancy-colored diamonds, range in price from a few thousand dollars to $650,000 for a purplish-pink 3.65-carat ring and will go on the market Tuesday. The Seattle-based Internet jeweler plans to initially sell 90 diamonds, but it will have access to more than 1,000 if there's demand.
